General National is pleased to announce the release of Andrew Buck’s anticipated written work on Project and Program Management from a pragmatic perspective. Entitled “(Not) PMO-in-a-Can: Pragmatic Management of Strategic Objectives (as told from the trenches)”, the book is designed to provide useful information to both the individual practitioner and the Corporate Manager/CxO alike by providing thought leadership around effective management of initiatives. Rather than simply being a dry-read on Project Management theory, a la PMI’s PMBOK, the book takes a radical detour by suggesting new approaches to existing project management challenges, including communication, collaboration, governance, and addressing the entire lifecycle of a capability.
Andrew’s theories have also made their entrance into trademarked research for General National, including the development of “CLiF” TM (Capability Lifecycle Framework), and is described as a more seamless method of managing traditional financial challenges on reducing operating costs while improving services without resorting to draconian measure of headcount reduction of outsourcing. The book represents the introduction of a change-oriented thought process, and challenges even the perception that the traditional notions of a Project/Program Management Office (PMO) should focus only on “people, process and tools”.
While not a “how-to” publication, practitioners and business customers at all levels should find something of interest within the work that helps to challenge our thought processes toward better strategic alignment.
